More St Andrews pics....

St Salvator's Chapel

A PH in the sidewalk outside St Salvator's in honor of Patrick Hamilton, a martyr in the Scottish Reformation. According to legend, if an undergraduate steps on this for fear of failing their degree.

St Andrews' Undergrads in robes for the annual Pier Walk.  After church at St Salvator's on the first Sunday of the term, everyone walks down the pier.  Notice the girls with their robes off both shoulders - this signifies that they are 4th year.  The robes for St Mary's, the Divinity college, are black with a violet cross instead of red.  I'm told that this is so pubs would not serve the Divinity students liquor during the Middle Ages.

The Pier Walk at East Sands, St Andrews

One of several shops offering "kilt hire." On this Sunday, I saw a lot more men in kilts out and about.

St Leonard's, a 12th c. chapel

Holy Trinity, famous as the place where John Knox preached and riled everyone up.  Result: stripped cathedral.

St Andrews Town Hall

A Post Box.

Looking up City Road to Hope Park and Martyr's Church.

The West Port, one of the old city gates.  This one is about a half a block from my residence.

Gregg, this made me think of your V-Power shirt and gassing up in Canmore.
